The surgeon begins the procedure by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone, along with another incision which frees the bellybutton from its tissue. The skin is then separated and lifted to reveal the vertical muscles of the abdomen which are then tightened. The skin flap is then drawn back down and the extra skin cut away.
