The surgeon begins the procedure by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone, along with another incision which frees the bellybutton from its adjacent tissue. In order to reveal, and thus tighten, the abdominal muscles, the skin is separated and lifted. The skin flap is then drawn back down and the excess skin removed.
