Rhinoplasty can be either opened or closed: open rhinoplasty involving incisions which are made externally, or on the outside of the nose, along with those made inside of the nose, closed rhinoplasty referring to incisions which are only located in the inside of the nose. The underlying bone and cartilage are revealed by lifting the skin of the nose once the incisions are made. The bone and cartilage a more appealing shape to can then be sculpted by removing, adding to, or rearranging. When the desired shape is achieved, the skin is then pulled back and the incisions are closed.
