Rhinoplasty can be either opened or closed: open rhinoplasty involving incisions which are made externally, or on the outside of the nose, as well as those made inside of the nose, closed rhinoplasty referring to incisions which are solely made on the inside of the nose. Patients are usually able to return to work within one to two weeks, though more strenuous activity may need to be put off for two to three weeks. Possible risks and complications associated with rhinoplasty are as follows: infection, bursting of blood vessels, the need for additional surgeries, adverse anesthesia reactions, dissatisfaction with results, airway obstruction, bleeding, excessive scarring, and poor healing.
