Rhinoplasty can be either opened or closed: open rhinoplasty involving incisions which are made externally, or on the outside of the nose, in combination with any made inside of the nose, closed rhinoplasty referring to incisions which are only made on the inside of the nose. After the incisions are made, the skin of the nose is separated and lifted from its underlying cartilage and bone. The bone and cartilage a more preferable shape to can then be molded by removing, adding to, or rearranging. When the desired shape is achieved, the skin is then pulled back and the incisions are closed.
