Rhinoplasty, known more commonly as a nose job, is the surgical procedure which can alter the look of the nose, though it may also be used to relieve breathing problems. This can be achieved by reducing or increasing the size, narrowing the span of the nostrils, changing the shape of the tip or bridge of the nose, or changing the angle between the nose and upper lip.
Rhinoplasty usually requires between one and two hours to complete, longer for more complicated procedures. Patients typically find that they can return to work within one to two weeks, though more strenuous activity may need to be postponed for two to three weeks. There are possible risks and complications associated with rhinoplasty which can include the following: infection, bursting of blood vessels, the need for additional surgeries, adverse anesthesia reactions, dissatisfaction with results, airway obstruction, bleeding, excessive scarring, and poor healing.
