Rhinoplasty generally takes between one and two hours to complete, though more complicated procedures may take longer. The type of anesthesia most commonly used is either a general anesthetic or a local anesthetic combined with sedation. Patients typically can return to work within one to two weeks, though more strenuous activity may need to be postponed for two to three weeks. Potential risks can include the following: infection, bursting of blood vessels, the need for additional surgeries, adverse anesthesia reactions, dissatisfaction with results, airway obstruction, bleeding, excessive scarring, and poor healing.
