Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is the surgical procedure designed to modify the look of the nose, though it may also be used to relieve breathing problems. With the incisions made, the skin of the nose is separated from the underlying bone and cartilage. The bone and cartilage the preferred shape to can then be molded by removing, adding to, or rearranging. The skin will be pulled back and the incisions closed once the desired shape is achieved. Patients can normally return to work within one to two weeks, though more strenuous activity may need to be put off for two to three weeks. Potential risks can include the following: infection, bursting of blood vessels, the need for additional surgeries, adverse anesthesia reactions, dissatisfaction with results, airway obstruction, bleeding, excessive scarring, and poor healing.
