Rhinoplasty can be either opened or closed: open rhinoplasty involving incisions which are made externally, or on the outside of the nose, combine with any made inside of the nose, closed rhinoplasty referring to incisions which are solely confined to the inside of the nose. The procedure can be performed in a surgeon’s office, surgical center, or hospital, and typically involves either a local anesthetic combined with sedation or general anesthesia.

Patients usually find that they can return to work within one to two weeks, though more strenuous activity may need to be put off for two to three weeks. The potential risks and complications occurring with rhinoplasty an include the following: infection, bursting of blood vessels, the need for additional surgeries, adverse anesthesia reactions, dissatisfaction with results, airway obstruction, bleeding, excessive scarring, and poor healing.
