Plastic Surgery, which includes both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, is a branch of surgery which entails the repair or replacement of malformed, injured or lost organs or tissues of the body. The two main differences between reconstructive and cosmetic surgery are as follows: (1) reconstructive surgery is generally performed to improve function while cosmetic surgery is generally performed to improve form or appearance; and (2) reconstructive surgery is generally covered by insurance while cosmetic surgery is not.
