Facelift surgery, known also as rhytidectomy or rhytidoplasty, is the surgical procedure created to reduce wrinkling and sagging of the face and neck. A more youthful appearance can be achieved by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and/or redraping the skin of the face and neck.

Within ten to fourteen days, patients are typically able to return to work, though more strenuous activity may need to be held off on for two or more weeks.

Complications which can result from facelift surgery are as follows: adverse anesthesia reactions, asymmetry, bleeding, change in hairline, excessive scarring, hematoma, infection, nerve injury, and poor healing.
