The procedure usually requires several hours to complete and can occur in a surgeon’s office, an outpatient surgery center, or in a hospital. General anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with sedation is most often used. Incisions are typically situated just above the hairline at the temples, running down in front of the ear, then behind the earlobe and concluding at the lower scalp. With these incisions made, the skin is then separated from the fat and muscle beneath it, and fat is trimmed or suctioned out from areas of the chin and neck. The underlying muscles may need to be tightened before the skin is pulled back, any any extra skin trimmed, and the incisions closed. While strenuous activities may need to be avoided for two or more weeks, most patients find that they’re able to return to work within ten to fourteen days. Complications which can result from facelift surgery can include the following: adverse anesthesia reactions, asymmetry, bleeding, change in hairline, excessive scarring, hematoma, infection, nerve injury, and poor healing. ![]()
