Abdominoplasty, known by the medical term abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure intended to produce a flatter, more pleasing abdomen. To achieve this, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened and excess fat and skin of the middle and lower abdomen are removed.

Surgical times can take anywhere from two to five hours. The surgeon will start by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone, along with another incision which frees the bellybutton from the tissue surrounding it. By separating and lifting the skin, the vertical muscles are revealed and can then be tightened. The skin flap is then drawn back down and the extra skin cut away. A new hole is then cut for the bellybutton, which is stitched into place, and the incisions are then closed.
After the procedure, most patients go back to work within two to four weeks, though more strenuous activities may need to be avoided for four to six weeks. abdominoplasty surgery may include the following complications and risks: bleeding under the skin flap, blood clots, conspicuous scarring, infection, poor healing, skin loss, and the need for additional surgery.
