Abdominoplasty, also called abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at producing a flatter, more pleasing abdomen. To achieve this, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened and excess fat and skin of the middle and lower abdomen are removed.

Two to five hours is typically required to complete the procedure. The surgeon will start by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone, along with another incision which frees the bellybutton from the tissue around it. Once the skin is separated and lifted, the vertical muscles of the abdomen are tightened. The skin flap is then stretched back down and the surplus skin excised. The bellybutton is stitched into place after having a new hole cut for it, then the incisions are closed.
After the procedure, most patients find that they can return to work within two to four weeks, though more strenuous activities may need to be put off for four to six weeks. Potential risks and complications associated with abdominoplasty surgery are as follows: bleeding under the skin flap, blood clots, conspicuous scarring, infection, poor healing, skin loss, and the need for additional surgery.
