Abdominoplasty, also called abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure intended to provide a flatter, more pleasing abdomen. To achieve this, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened and excess fat and skin of the middle and lower abdomen are removed. This procedure can be completed in a surgical center, office or hospital, and usually involves either general anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with sedation. Surgical times can take anywhere from two to five hours.

In order to reveal, and thus tighten, the abdominal muscles, the skin is separated and lifted. The skin flap is then pulled back down and the extra skin excised. The bellybutton has a new hole cut for it and is stitched into place. The incisions are then stitched closed.
After the procedure, most patients go back to work within two to four weeks, though more strenuous activities may need to be put off for four to six weeks. abdominoplasty surgery may include the following complications and risks: bleeding under the skin flap, blood clots, conspicuous scarring, infection, poor healing, skin loss, and the need for additional surgery.
