Abdominoplasty, known also as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure able to produce a flatter, more pleasing abdomen. To achieve this, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened and excess fat and skin are removed from the middle and lower abdomen.
Risks, cost, discussions, rates, and abdominoplasty ConnecticutThis procedure can be performed in a surgical center, office or hospital, and typically involves either general anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with sedation. It typically takes between two and five hours to complete. The surgeon will start by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone, along with another incision which frees the bellybutton from its surrounding tissue. In order to reveal, and thus tighten, the abdominal muscles, the skin is separated and lifted. The skin flap is then drawn back down and the surplus skin excised. Once a new hole is cut for the bellybutton, it is then stitched into place, and the incisions are then closed.
After the procedure, most patients find that they can go back to work within two to four weeks, though more strenuous activities may need to be postponed for four to six weeks. The following potential risks and complications can occur with abdominoplasty surgery: bleeding under the skin flap, blood clots, conspicuous scarring, infection, poor healing, skin loss, and the need for additional surgery.
