Abdominoplasty, known also as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure intended to produce a flatter, more pleasing abdomen. To achieve this, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened and excess fat and skin of the middle and lower abdomen are removed. This procedure may take place in a surgical center, office or hospital, and most commonly involves the use of either general anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with sedation. Two to five hours is typically required to complete the procedure.
Procedures, rates, risks, news, and abdominoplasty Albuquerque The surgeon starts by making an incision from hipbone to hipbone, along with another incision which frees the bellybutton from the tissue surrounding it. The skin is then separated and lifted to reveal the vertical muscles of the abdomen which are then tightened. The skin flap is then drawn back down and the extra skin removed. A new hole is then cut for the bellybutton, which is stitched into place, and the incisions are then closed.
After the procedure, most patients return to work within two to four weeks, though more strenuous activities may need to be put off for four to six weeks. The following are potential risks and complications associated with abdominoplasty surgery: bleeding under the skin flap, blood clots, conspicuous scarring, infection, poor healing, skin loss, and the need for additional surgery.
